Annual Passholders & Resort Guests Get Two New Magic Band Options

Disney recently debuted two new magic band options exclusive for Guests that are Annual Passholders or are staying at an on-property Disney Resort.
It has been known for quite some time now, that magic bands no longer come as a free perk when staying at a Walt Disney World Resort or as an Annual Passholder. Fortunately, Disney has allowed certain Guests to pre-order upcoming magic bands at a discounted price, which is what we are seeing here with the two new designs. The magic bands can be found on the Shop Disney website.
The two magic bands can be ordered by Guests meeting either of the two descriptions above for special pre-arrival discounted rates. One design is based on the Soarin attraction at EPCOT, and the other design is in honor of the Disney Vacation Club. Both magic bands come in a very nice shade of navy blue.
The Soarin magic band can be purchased by Annual Passholders and Resort Guests for $20, which is $14.99 off of the original $34.99 price tag.
One side of the magic band depicts Mickey as a pilot tipping his hat underneath the Soarin logo.
On the other side of the magic band, a plane is depicted soarin through the sky with a rainbow tail following behind it. Inside the rainbow tail, is a quote that may say We Are Cleared For Takeoff once fully revealed.

Using Magicbands For Fastpass+
The best thing about using a MagicBand? You can use them to access your FastPass+ reservations throughout the park! All you do is touch your band to the FastPass+ censor and you’re good to go!
Update: FastPass+ has now officially been retired! The new replacement Disney Genie+ will launch sometime this Fall. This new program will still utilize the previous FastPass lines so guests will likely still use MagicBands to scan in!
How Can I Customize Our Magic Bands
When you make a resort reservation directly with Disney, your reservation will automatically appear in your My Disney Experience account.
If you book with a third party or a travel agent you will be able to add your reservation to your account with the confirmation number you receive at booking.
When you order your Magic Band through My Disney Experience you can customize the band with your name.
Another very affordable way to get a custom look is to order a Magic Band decal on Etsy!
The vinyl decal is easy to apply to your band and they are only a few dollars each. We received lots of compliments on our last trip.
Or if you are into DIY, you can get some tattoos and nail gems for a few dollars and decorate away!

Can Magicbands Get Wet
Yes! MagicBands are fully waterproof. You can take a shower with them or swim with them in your hotels pool with no worries. They are perhaps the most convenient at Disneys water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, because guests now no longer have to carry money or credit cards.
If you do choose to take them off to shower or swim just remember to put them back on. I find its sometimes easier to keep them on for the entirety of your vacation so you dont risk leaving them on the nightstand or bathroom vanity.

How Do Disney Magicbands Work With Fastpass+
Walt Disney World offers a free cut-the-line service called Fastpass+ at all theme parks. Fastpass+ allows you to pre-select up to three attractions each day in a single park, assigning you a 1 hour reservation window. Guests holding Fastpass reservations return to rides in a special line can ride the attraction with a shorter wait.
To book Fastpasses, simply pre-select Fastpass+ times online on your My Disney Experience account or in Disneys mobile app. Those Fastpass+ times are then linked to your MagicBand. When your reservation time arrives, scan your MagicBand at the Fastpass+ entrance to the attraction and breeze on through.
If you dont have a MagicBand, Fastpass+ is still available to you by using an RFID card in the parks.
Just Announced: Magicband+ Will Debut In 2022 At Walt Disney World Resort As Part Of 50th Anniversary Celebration

Innovation is essential to The Walt Disney Company story, dating back to its inception nearly a century ago. As Walt Disney once said, Well always be introducing and testing and demonstrating new materials and new systems. Well, that promise will come true once again next year when Walt Disney World Resort releases our next-generation wearable technology, MagicBand+.
The original MagicBand was introduced in 2013 at Walt Disney World, making the guest experience in our theme parks and resorts more convenient and hands-free for things like park and guest room entry, retail and dining, Disney PhotoPass and more. MagicBand+ will retain those popular features and add functionality that unlocks new moments of magic for you.
After you enter a theme park, MagicBand+ will come alive at various times with color-changing lights, haptic vibrations and gesture recognition. The wearable will allow you to engage with favorite Disney moments in new ways, including:
MagicBand+ will be available for purchase beginning next year, including a discounted, pre-arrival price for Disney Resort hotel guests as well as new and renewing Walt Disney World Annual Passholders. When You Are At Disney World You Can Use Your Magic Band To:

You tap the Mickey symbol on your Magic Band to a receiver on your room door, at the turnstiles, at checkout registers, etc. to use your band.
Can I Reuse Magicbands On A Future Vacation
If youve created a MagicBand original that you cant part with or want to be environmentally responsible and generate less plastic, you dont have to use a new MagicBand on your next vacation. MagicBands can be used again and again for your next Disney trips if you choose. As long as a band is listed as active in your My Disney Experience account, it can be re-used.
If you have an old band from a previous on-property stay but are staying off-property on your next Disney vacation, you can take advantage of the convenience of reuse at no additional cost. Just remember it wont work for charging privileges, since those are only for hotel guests.

Can I Customize My Magicband
Since Disney visitors wear MagicBands for the entirety of a Disney vacation, many guests want to add a bit of originality and flair. Luckily, Disney has a number of options available for personalizing your wristband.
The most basic form of customization is color and theme selection. Disney has plenty of solid color choices as well as a number of premium special edition MagicBands: everything from Star Wars to the Incredibles. Most of these special bands are over $20 each and can be purchased from shopDisney.com in advance of your trip or in theme park stores on-site. A limited selection of premium MagicBands are also available for discounted upgrades for on-property guests. .
But MagicBand customization goes way beyond just colors and character designs at this point. MagicBand 2.0 has a center disc/puck Disney calls the icon that can be removed with a small screwdriver. Creative Disney types mix and match the icon with different color bands. And so many people decorate their MagicBands with paint, nail polish, vinyl cutout designs, temporary tattoos, rhinestones, and so much more.
Finally, if you dont want to wear a band, you can even remove the icon entirely. It fits into an accessory called a MagicKeeper to turn it into a keychain or lanyard. Disney has also just released slap bracelets that will hold this icon as well.
How Do Magicbands Work
The magic of MagicBands is enabled by a tiny RFID chip embedded in the center puck of the band. The bands transmit at both short range and long range distances to communicate to the Disney computers and allow you to access all the features of your Disney vacation.
As for what MagicBands do, the answer is a LOT! The bands can be used in the following ways:
- to scan/tap into the theme parks, acting as your park tickets
- as room keys to access your Disney on-property hotel room
- for redeeming Fastpass+ reservations as you enter the Fastpass queue at each ride
- to book Fastpass+ reservations at any of the freestanding kiosks in the parks
- for charging purchases to your Disney hotel room at stores all over Walt Disney World resort
- to load Photopass photos into your My Disney Experience account
As you might guess, the goal of MagicBands is to make all aspects of a Disney vacation as seamless as possible. There is no need to fumble with a hotel room key, risk losing a separate park ticket, or pull out a credit card every time you make a purchase. As a mom who is juggling young kids, I really appreciate the hands-free aspect of it all!

Now, guests have the option to purchase a MagicBand or can just use a Key to the World card or the My Disney Experience app in the same ways that they used the MagicBand. The card resembles a hotel key and can touched to all the same points where you used the MagicBand. The My Disney Experience mobile app now also has the power to function as a ticket through RFID technology in the phone.
Disney Resort hotel guests will have the option to purchase new MagicBands at a discount. Guests can also purchase MagicBands online from the shopDisney app. Bands can also be purchased at select Walt Disney World shops, Disney Springs stores, or other retail locations. Be sure to look for special offers, including limited-edition MagicBands. These special bands can also trigger light and sound effects at some touch point locations.

Do Magicbands Integrate With Photopass And Memorymaker
Yes! One of my favorite services at Disney parks is . Cast members who are professional photographers are located throughout the parks to take shots of your familys vacation. You can use your MagicBand to add photos to your online account where you can download some or all of them depending on what options you purchase.
Even more cameras take snapshots on rides. In some cases, youll need to scan your band at the end of the ride at the photo screens to add them to your account. But a few rides, like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, do this for you automatically. Yes, the long-range RF capabilities of MagicBands can actually identify you on the coaster and deliver photos and video straight to your My Disney Experience account!
Will Magicbands Fit Me Or My Child
How can one size really fit all when it comes to a little soft plastic wristband? Disney has wisely created MagicBands to have a tear away layer to make the band much smaller for the smallest of guests. We have been able to fit a MagicBand on my sons wrist when he was as young as 2 as well as all the adults in our extended traveling family. Of course, getting a toddler to keep a MagicBand on was a different matter entirely.

Magicbands At Your Disney Resort
Wearing and using your MagicBand provides a level of convenience during your vacation, especially for guests staying on-property. First, the MagicBand serves as your resort room key allowing access to your assigned room as well as other restricted areas of the resort such as alternative building entrances, pool areas, guest laundry rooms, fitness centers, and Club Level areas when applicable.
However, if you choose not to purchase a MagicBand, you are able to use Disney MagicMobile in the My Disney Experience app to unlock your room as well as gain access to the other resort amenities listed above. Open the My Disney Experience app, choose Disney MagicMobile from the main menu, and then select unlock door. Agree to allow your phone to be used as the key and voila your phone has transformed into your hotel room key.
