Khakis, golf shirts, deck shoes are acceptable for most sit down/premium restaurants, but at some high end all inclusive resorts some long sleeved shirts for dinner are more appropriate. We double-checked this with another hotel on the island, the Fairmont Kea Lani.
A package for six nights in October 2020 at the Fairmont Kea Lani costs $4,010 through Costco. This includes your rental car and a $100 activity credit.
Booking the hotel and rental car separately will cost $4,003. Yes, youre missing out on the $100 activity credit but youre saving $7.
Bottom line: the real savings come when you book full packages.

Many travelers dont realize that Travelocity, Orbitz, and CheapTickets are all owned by Expedia Group, and typically have very similar inventory and pricing to Expedia. Each of these sites has similar layouts and filter options, too. Like Expedia, these three sites offer every possible vacation package combination involving a flight, hotel, and/or rental car.
It was rare for any of these sites to beat out Expedias prices in my tests in general, the rates were identical or a little bit higher. However, Orbitz and CheapTickets did offer slightly cheaper packages on one flight/car itinerary.
Because the pricing is so similar, its probably not worth searching all three of these sites in addition to Expedia unless a difference of a few dollars will make or break your travel budget.
Best Feature: Travelocity, Orbitz, and CheapTickets all offer a checkbox on their main booking page to specify direct flights onlya feature that isnt currently available on Expedia. This saves you a step when filtering your flight options on later screens.
Note: Expedia Group also owns Hotwire, which I didnt find quite as reliable as the other three in my tests. For one itinerary, a nonstop flight that the other sites offered was not available when booking a Hotwire package , and the pricing on some searches was a little higher than on the other sites.

Choosing the best island to visit is one of the most challenging parts of planning a trip to Hawaii. They are all diverse with lots to offer, so it just depends what you are looking for.

If you are looking to get off-the-beaten-track, you could consider visiting one of these smaller, much less visited islands:
- Molokai Known as The Friendly Isle, on Molokai youll find a slow pace of life and more native Hawaiians, but less choice of accommodation and activities. Its also home to the leper colony of Kalaupapa, which I became fascinated with after reading a couple of these Hawaii books.
- Lanai For many years Lanai was a pineapple plantation and its now home to a few luxury resorts. If you want to enjoy the secluded beaches without the high price tag, the ferry from Lahaina on Maui only takes an hour so you could visit on a day trip.
The character of each island also depends on which part you visit. All the islands have a rainy side where the scenery is lush and green and a dry side where youll usually get more sun. They are both worth visiting, which is why we decided to split our island stays between two or three locations.
We had 3.5 weeks in Hawaii and chose to divide our time between Kauai and Maui, with one night in Honolulu before our flight to Japan. We loved them both, and theres so much to do on each island that were glad we didnt try to add in an extra island.
