Kona Coast offers a taste of the Hawaii of old, before the invasion of hotel chains and supermalls. Here you’ll find secret coves, secluded artists’ enclaves, forest-covered hills, vast lava deserts, and hectares upon hectares of coffee farms. The looming presence of the Mauna Loa and Hualalai volcanoes add a thrilling sense of living on the edge. The Big Island is a major seat of Hawaiian heritage, and many of these historic sites are only a short distance from Kona Coast. In Kailua itself, there’s Hulihee Palace, the 19th-century Victorian splendour that served as home to Hawaiian royalty. Near Kona Airport is Kaloko-Honokohau Park, the site of an ancient Hawaiian settlement. South of Kailua is Kealakekua Bay, where Captain James Cook, the first British explorer to set foot on Hawaii, met his end at the hands of Native Hawaiian warriors. And there’s Puukohola Heiau, the temple built by Hawaii’s great unifier, King Kamehameha I.

Located on the west side of Hawaii’s largest island, the district of Kona consists largely of the Waiaha Springs Forest Reserve and Honua’ula Forest Reserve. Far removed from Honolulu, Hawaii’s capital, Kona is making a name for itself and becoming a sought-after destination for travelers across the globe. Experience it for yourself with a stay in one of our Kona vacation rentals.

Best Time To Travel To Kailua
Not a fan of the cold? Well you’ve come to the right place, because there isn’t any here. All year round, Kailua-Kona is one of the warmest places in the whole of the States. It’s also relatively dry in this part of Hawaii, though one thing you might encounter during your Kailua-Kona vacation rental is a local phenomenon called “vog.” This “volcanic smog” is caused by the clouds of sulfur dioxide belched out by Hawaii’s most active volcano, Kilauea. It turns up sometimes if the winds are blowing in the right direction, but it doesn’t seem to deter the vacationers.
