Driving Directions From Lihue Airport

As you exit the Lihue Airport you will be on Ahukini Road .
Continue through the first traffic light signal and continue for about a mile on Akuhini Road until you reach the second traffic signal at the intersection of Kuhio Highway / Highway 56.
Turn left onto Highway 56 West, stay on the right and drive about 7 miles.
At about 0.3 miles, the highway will merge into Kaumualii Highway / Highway 50 West.
Continue on Kaumualii Highway / Highway 50 West as it leaves Lihue toward the Poipu area.
At 7 miles, turn left onto Highway 520, which is also known as The Tunnel of Trees, which leads to Koloa Town and Poipu.
Go about 3.2 miles until Highway 520 ends at Koloa Road in Koloa town.
Turn right onto Koloa Road. Less then a block later at the service station, you turn left on to Poipu Road.
Go 1.4 miles on Poipu Road until you reach a traffic circle.
Take the third right out of the traffic circle towards Poipu Beach.
Go 1 mile to the “Poipu Beach” sign.
Turn right and go about 0.2 miles until the road ends at Poipu Beach.
Turn left, go past Brennecke’s Restaurant and follow the road along the shoreline for about 0.4 miles until you get to the Poipu Shores.
At about 0.3 mile, the road jogs 90 degrees to the left and then back to the right and goes up a hill Poipu Shores is about 3/4 to the top of the hill on the right.

Poipu is arguably the best place for vacationing in Kauai, Hawaii. It is almost always dry in Poipu even when it is pouring on the North shore and the trade winds keep the temperatures mild year round. Poipu Beach is rated as one of the best beaches in the USA. You can get to Shipwreck Beach, Poipu Beach and Baby beach from our rental home with a short five minute walk through the lush green belts of the resort Poipu Kai.

Our Poipu Kauai vacation rental house has two master bedrooms on the second floor:one in the main house one in the detached bungalow separated from the main house by a breezeway on the lanai. The other two bedrooms are on the first floor of the main house. The bedrooms do not share a wall and are not on top of another, resulting in total comfort and privacy at night.

We feel lucky to have found this place on VRBO as it made our stay quite enjoyable. We were visiting for a conference at Grand Hyatt but wanted to stay at a house given we have 3 little ones. This place is walking distance to Grand Hyatt – a leisurely 10min walk with toddlers. It is in a residential area, so the closest restaurants/coffee shops are at the Hyatt. The pathway that takes us to Grand Hyatt/beach is right behind the yard and we see plenty of people taking a stroll throughout the day. Neighborhood is quiet, safe and the neighbors friendly. My 2yo daughter wandered off one day and made it two houses down before she was noticed by concerned pedestrians who stayed with her and notified me. Other restaurants/shops are a short 7min drive away. Many areas of interest are also close by. We drove to the Baby Beach and spent half a day there. We also got a resort pass for the Grand Hyatt and spent a fun day. Grocery chains are about 20-25min out, close to the airport. Inside the house, the appliances are great, AC works well, showers are nice. There is a good collection of books and board games. What I appreciated the most were the booster chairs that made our lives so much easier. Inside the garage were other things you wish you had but couldn’t bring with you, like folding chairs, etc. Plenty of towels/beach towels, clean sheets. Really appreciate the attention to detail and the amenities.
