How Does Disney Vacation Club Work
DVC operates on a points system that allows members to use their points in a flexible fashion at any of the DVC resorts. Those who have purchased their DVC points directly from Disney can also use those points at Disney resort hotels in California, Florida, France, Hong Kong, Japan, the Disney Cruise Line, and other vacations.
While Disney likes to emphasize the flexibility of the points system and your ability to use them outside of Disney, the reality is that the most cost-effective use of DVC points is at the DVC resorts. Using points for cruises or regular hotel rooms just doesnt give you as much bang for your buck. For that reason, DVC membership generally is not worth considering unless you plan to stay at a DVC resort at least every other year.

Disney Vacation Club Point System For Deciding If Dvc Is Worth It
As discussed above The Disney Vacation club operates on a point system. The amount of points you purchase is a one-time buy and is based on your families vacation goals. The great thing about the Disney Vacation Club points is you can use them for other vacations such as international Disney trips and Disney cruise line. You have the option to buy your DVC membership directly through Disney or you can purchase resale points from someone selling their membership.
Its important to note that as of March 21, 2011 only DVC members who purchased directly from Disney will receive all of the most recent perks.
Dvc Vacation Points Value
Each DVC Resort Villa and week will be assigned a designated Vacation Points value. Factors such as resort, location, unit size, and week number will all influence the amount of points required to book a vacation. Like most timeshares, more popular resorts and weeks will require more points. When booking a reservation, you have the option to use all of your points at once or separate them into multiple trips. If money is a concern, but you have a definite resort preference, you should buy where you want to stay. If you wont be happy unless you are able to stay at the Beach Club Villas every trip, you should purchase points there.
This is especially true with the popular and small resorts, such as the Beach Club Villas, which are difficult to book at the 7 months mark throughout much of the year. At the bare minimum, your home resort should be somewhere you wouldnt mind stayingbecause you just might have to stay there during busier seasons where other resorts are booked at the 7 month mark. Start Watching The Resale Listings There are several sites that can assist you in purchasing Disney Vacation Club via the resale market, and the one we recommend is DVC Resale Market. What If I Need More Than 24 Points
DVC only allows each membership the option to purchase 24 one time use points per year. However, there are alternatives if you need more than 24 points.

Can You Use Online Check
If you rent points to book your stay, youll be able to use that confirmation number to link the reservation to My Disney Experience. Then, youll be able to utilize Online Check-In just as a traditional hotel guest would be able to. Youll also be able to make dining reservations, FastPass+ reservations , etc. just as a regular guest would be able to. Youll also be able to use your phone or MagicBand to open your door if you want.
Youll also be able to use Magical Express to get to your room , and youll fall under the Resort Guests category when it comes to Park Pass availability.

What about other perks? DVC Members get access to DVC lounges, etc. so do you get those benefits by renting points? Unfortunately, you do not. You wont get access to the DVC lounges or be able to use the DVC member discounts.
But, you will get free parking as we discussed above, free laundry services , and since you are considered a hotel guest you will get access to some discounted MagicBands.
You Can Save Thousands Of Dollars On Your Disney Vacation Using Dvc Rentals And No Membership Is Required
Guests pay only $19.00 per point for all stays within 7 months and reservations booked beyond 7 months are calculated at $19.00 or $20.00 per point based on the DVC resort.
We have, available to us, inventories of rooms located on Disney property at the Walt Disney World Resort Florida, Disneyland Resort California, Aulani Hawaii, South Carolina and the Florida Atlantic coast, for rent.
You can reserve one of these rooms directly through Disney Central Reservations, or you can experience DVC Rentals to book the very same room through members of the Disney Vacation Club, at prices that will leave you asking “HOW CAN THAT BE?”.
These rooms, classified by Disney as “Deluxe Disney Villas“, are all located within the Disney Vacation Club resorts. You DO NOT need to be a member of the Disney Vacation Club or David’s Vacation Club Rentals.
The reservation will be in your name and you will check in at the regular Disney Resort arrival desk.
Your room will be assigned to you by the Disney Resort Cast members on your arrival. You will be treated the same as every Disney Resort Guest and you will have access to all of the same amenities and perks afforded to each and every guest staying at a Disney Resort.
The biggest difference is: There will be no room bill to pay when you check out unless you charge purchases to your room using your Key to the World Card, Room Card or Magic Band .

How Early Should You Book
One question is how early can you book, but how early SHOULD you book is an entirely separate matter. The representative from Davids said its hard. If youre looking at a resort thats really close to a theme park or has access to Disneys monorail system, those tend to get all booked up about 7-11 months in advance. If you also have something very specific in mind like you want a room at Bay Lake Tower or a studio with a theme park view, those are also things that youll want to book 11 months in advance.

If youre looking for something like a preferred studio at Saratoga Springs Resort where there tends to be more inventory and availability , the representative suggested guests book their rooms about 4-5 months in advance.
Is There A Downside To Renting Davids Dvc Points
I dont think there is a downside, but there is a couple of trade offs:
- Housekeeping is limited. If you stay less than eight days, you get trash and towel service on night four. If you stay more than eight nights, full-service housekeeping is included. And, if you prefer daily housekeeping, it can be added for an additional fee.
- You have to pay a deposit of $126 to start the reservation process. Its 100% refundable to you if your reservation is not confirmed, usually within 24 hours.
- Once confirmed, you have to pay the entire amount of the booking.

How Does It Work
Its simple! If youre a DVC owner booking a reservation and you are shy of a number of points to complete your reservation, simply contact DVC Member Services to request the purchase of additional one time use points needed to complete your reservation booking.
Things to keep in mind:
- One time use points can only be purchased to complete a reservation booking.
- One time use points can only be purchased for reservations in the 7-month booking window.
- One time use points are not eligible for purchase to complete reservations during your Home Resort priority.

Do You Plan Your Vacations Ahead Of Time
This is something else to consider when trying to decide if becoming a DVC owner is right for you. If you like to plan last-minute trips to Disney when you can get a cheap flight, or you decide on a whim to take advantage of a three-day weekend and head to the parksDVC might not work for you.
Disney Vacation Club operates best for those people who can plan their trip seven months ahead of time, and even better for those who know they want to go eleven months ahead. While those times seem odd and randomtheyre not. DVC owners are allowed to book at their home resort at the eleven-month mark . They can then modify their reservation and switch to a resort they dont own at the seven-month mark. The difficulty lies in the timing. The most popular resorts are often gone right at that seven-month window. So, if you decide you want to go to Disney at the three-month mark, and you want to stay at the Polynesian, DVC will most likely put you on a waitlist. If it doesnt come through, you will have to stay at whatever resort you were able to book while waiting to see if you got the Poly. That can be very frustrating for people who arent planners, but its one of the hard truths about DVC. The closer you get to the date of your vacation, the less resort availability there is.
