Latest Travel Rules For Germany Spain France Netherlands And Italy During Omicron

Brits can travel to France, Italy and Spain from next week

Latest travel rules for UK travellers heading to Germany, Spain, France, Netherlands, Italy and more as restrictions remain in place due to the Omicron variant of coronavirus

  • 10:35, 5 Jan 2022

The Omicron variant has caused a number of countries to tighten up their Covid rules, including stricter travel rules.

The likes of Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy have all introduced stricter measures in recent weeks, including changes to entry rules that affect British holidaymakers.

Meanwhile France continues to ban UK travellers from visiting for non-essential reasons, while Hong Kong recently announced a ban on flights from eight countries, which includes the UK.

However, there are still plenty of destinations open to Brits for holidays, including the likes of Spain, Portugal, Greece and Turkey, although they do have rules in place.

To give you a helping hand, we’ve highlighted rules for popular holiday destinations below.

You Want To Keep An Eye On The Budget

The cost of travel in either France or Italy clearly varies dramatically based on where exactly you go and what kind of trip you plan.

However, while budget travelers can find a way to make do in France and luxury seekers will find no shortage of pampering in Italy, generally speaking, Italy is more affordable to travel in than France.

That is especially true if you avoid the northernmost regions .

Advice For France And Italy 30 Day Itinerary

My husband and I are spending June into early July in France and Italy. Here is the tentative itinerary – looking for reactions and suggestions. Does this look doable? Anything you would suggest changing? Any specific suggestions within each area/region where I’ve listed several possibilities would be great to help narrow down! I don’t want to be too on the go all the time.

We are mid-30s and our priorities are experiencing the culture through food and wine, possibly a cooking class, and also a good mix of city/sightseeing and countryside/hiking. I have been to some of the popular cities and destinations before but my husband hasn’t been to either country before so I’m trying to include a balance of classic places to visit and some new places for me. Also because we are starting in France and making our way down to depart from Rome, we decided not to go south of Rome on this trip .

Day 1 : Arrive Geneva early morning

Day 2-6: Paris

Day 7-11: train to Avignon, stay in Provence. Rent a car and possibly stay in Luberon as a home base. Potential places to visit: Marseilles, Arles, hill towns, Orange.

Day 12-14: Cote d’Azur. Should we keep the rental car and drive here? Potentially stay in Antibes. Other potential places to visit: saint tropez, nice, monaco.

Day 17-19: Train to Bologna and spend 2 nights in Bologna. Or possibly stop in Parma or Modena before getting to Bologna?

Day 20-21: Train to Venice for brief stay.

Day 22: Train to Florence. Stay overnight in Florence.

France and Italy share their mutual love for wine and it comes as no surprise that some of the worlds finest wines originate here. The French are the biggest wine drinkers of Europe, closely followed by Italians. Sipping on a glass of wine on an empty stomach is not something your doctor would recommend you to do, which is why the French and Italian cuisines will delight your taste buds while delicately soothing your senses. Fly On A Budget Carrier

Europe is home to numerous rock-bottom priced budget airlines. Occasionally, it is possible to find fares as low as one euro, not including sales tax. The disadvantage of flying is that most budget airlines fly out of smaller airports out of the city center. So, what is saved in airfare, is made up in taxi fares into the city of choice. Search a budget air website like Wegolo.com or Skyscanner.net for a comparison of fares across multiple airlines.

What Happens If I Test Positive Prior To Boarding My Flight Home From Italy

Many countries, including the United States, require residents to show proof of negative test prior to boarding your flight home from Italy. Should you test positive, youâll need to follow the steps outlined above including quarantining at your own expense at a private property or government quarantine hotel. For this reason travel insurance that covers this scenario is strongly recommended.

Does The Advice Apply If I Have Had A Covid Vaccine

With the introduction of the EU wide Green Pass, you will likely need to prove you are fully vaccinated â meaning you have had your last vaccination 14 days before departure with an EU approved vaccine. Italyâs current green pass rules do not apply to under-12s.

Until March 31st 2022, a âSuperâ Green Pass or equivalent eg CDC card is required to access most venues and forms of transport. A âSuperâ Green Pass is an EU digital COVID-19 certificate obtained after receiving the full vaccination cycle or after recovering from COVID-19. See the Italian Green Certificate information site and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for more information.

In January 2022 the duration of the green pass from vaccination and post-vaccination recovery must be within 9 months. From 1 February 2022 the duration of the green pass from vaccination and post-vaccination recovery will be further reduced to 6 months.

From December 6th, basic green passes issued based on negative test results will no longer be valid for entry to many cultural and leisure venues.

Please note â Different advice applies depending on your country of residence and those you transit through.

What Happens If I Fall Ill With Covid When In Italy

If you have symptoms you should contact the regional health authority where you are staying immediately. They will arrange a test and determine next steps which will likely mean isolating for at least 10 days and potentially up to 21 days at your own expense if you test positive.

You must be symptom free for 3 days before you able to take a test to show that you are negative and can be released from isolation. Make sure you have adequate health insurance to cover you if such a situation occurs and be aware that your insurance company may not honor claims if you are in Italy when a do not travel order there exists.

France And Italy: Best 2 To 3 Week Itinerary For First

The only country that might be more magical than France for first-time visitors is Italy, and vice-versa. Even though Europe is filled with amazing tourist destinations these two countries seem to stand above the others, with France being the most visited country in the world and Italy having the most UNESCO World Heritage sites. For my own money, these two countries contain 3 of the 5 great European cities that everyone should see first.

Fortunately, these two countries also share a border so they are extremely popular to visit as a pair. They both also get so many tourists that all the major destinations are easy enough to visit without knowing the language at all, though learning at least a few words and phrases is simple and worthwhile. For these reasons, France and Italy are perhaps the most popular first trip to the European continent. Below we’ll discuss the cities you need to include and the minimum time in each, as well as some other itinerary planning tips.

You Want To See More Of The Best

The most colourful road trip in Europe: France ...

Seeing all of France or Italy is clearly a project worthy of a lifetime, but theres no doubt you can cover more of Italys top 10 best-known sights in, say, two weeks than you can of the same in France.

Frances best-known destinationsParis, Provence, the beaches of Normandy, Bordeaux, and the French Riviera, for exampleare best visited through multiple trips.

For Italy, on the other hand, Rome, Florence/Tuscany, Cinque Terre or the Amalfi Coast, and Venice can be worked quite nicely into a two-week trip, and people determined to do it all can even add on a day trip to Pompeii from Rome or the Amalfi Coast.

While there is clearly far more to do in both countries than what I have listed, if youre looking for a taste of several of the major highlights of Italy or France in one trip, thats easier to accomplish in Italy.
