How To Create An Airbnb Video To Market Your Property

All posts,Vacation Rental Tips

If you are looking for a creative way to market your Airbnb property, an Airbnb video can do wonders for your listing. As the old saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

But if you include a video in your , it may be even more effective than static images. According to Hubspot, 72% of customers would rather learn about a product or service by watching a video. The importance of using video as a marketing tactic is backed by the fact that YouTube is the second most popular website after Google. As YouTube data shows, users view more than 1 billion hours of video content each day on their platform.

In addition, another study found that 92 percent of mobile video viewers share videos with others. These studies show that video is gaining momentum like never before.

To help your Airbnb property stand out, we have put together this useful manual so you can create an Airbnb video to market your property. Read on to learn about the best practices of promoting your rental through video.

Use The Right Settings

For videos, I always recommend sticking with 1080p at 60 frames per second. It works great every time.

If youre after the slow-mo effect, crank up the shutter speed to 120 fps or even 240 fps if you have a Hero 6. Be careful though. High frame rates will result in grainy looking footage if the lighting is not good.

For pictures, use the highest possible resolution. If youre into high-speed action sports, the Burst Mode or Time-lapse are great. Dont overuse them though. You will run out of storage space fast.

Another thing you can play with is the field of view. Its GoPros own way of zooming in and out.

The Superview and Wide modes will work great for 90% of the shoots, but if you want to get a more zoomed in shot of your subject without actually getting closer, use the Medium or Narrow settings. You can read more about how the GoPro Field of View setting works over here.

Bonus Tips Shooting With A Gopro Camera

The small size of GoPro cameras and their amazing video quality have transformed them into a must-have travel camera, rather than just an action camera. They are so much more convenient than a DSLR camera or mirrorless camera, for example.

I know there are a ton of travel bloggers using them and, if youre reading this, theres a pretty good chance you own a GoPro too. So, heres how to get the most out of your GoPro when youre traveling.

Shooting Your Travel Video

How to Start a Travel Blog in 2021

It is important to put in a good deal of thought and planning before you start shooting your travel video, while also allowing plenty of room for spontaneity and improvisation . Taking shots that are as natural as possible is what makes a travel video more endearing.

If you are giving voiceovers, it is good to do a little bit of research beforehand on the place you are visiting, its history, etc., and take your time to think before you say something.

If you take additional footage or footage in sequence, it will make it all the easier at the editing stage. It is also important to keep your camera as steady as possible. It is best to avoid zooming in and out quickly as well as panning often.

If you are going to be in front of the camera and it makes you nervous, just pretend that you are talking to your loved ones. Let your personality shine through your video!

Connect Your Shots In A Meaningful Way

This is probably one of the hardest and most time-consuming parts of editing a travel video. Most travel videos look like a bunch of random clips stitched together with no purpose or story behind it, which is alright but if you want to create a great travel video and stand out from the rest, you need to pay attention to how the clips are connected.

Taken from the Watchtower of Turkey video by Leonardo Dalessandri.

Let’s look at one of the best example of travel videos with meaningful transition, the Watchtower of Turkey. When you watch it, it may seem like everything is random, and yet you don’t seem to mind.

That is because every single clip in this video is connected either by a motion of an object, a camera movement direction, dominant colors, shapes or luminance, all to create a single flow that dictates the entire travel video.

As mentioned before, travel videos are spontaneous which makes it harder to plan meaningful transitions between shots but it is not impossible.

What I usually do is, following the third tip from this article, I will be left with plenty of material to work with at the end, I would then display all the footages in a catalog agurl” rel=”nofollow”> Adobe Lightroom is great for this) and I would look through the catalog one by one a few times over before I find 2 clips with a meaningful transition and then I work it out from there.

Prepare The Camera Settings Before Your Trip

One of the last things you want to do is to change a picture profile of your camera while you are on the trip. That would create a lot of unnecessary headache along the line, especially while you are in the editing booth color-correcting.

Before your trip, experiment on which settings work best for you and set it to default for all modes. Avoid changing any settings that would affect your footages for consistency of the footages you will get.

For my Sony a7C, I have the 2 memory buttons set to 4K, 25fps with picture profile 6 for general footages and 1080p, 120fps with the same picture profile for slow-motion shots respectively so that I can easily switch between modes depending on the type of footages I want to get at that moment.

Spend some time and experiment with your camera, find the right settings, and stick to it for the entire trip.

Extra Don’t Hesitate To Use Stock Videos

If you find yourself lacking certain footages to create connection and flow you want in your travel videos and going back to the location to shoot again is not possible, do not hesitate to use stock videos in your travel videos.

One of my most popular videos, Russia Hour, also uses a stock video for a car ride hyperlapse shot at night to create motion so if you realize you lack a certain footage while you are editing, I highly recommend you go browse Shutterstock to create the perfect travel videos.

Shutterstock is my favorite choice when it comes to finding stock videos to enhance my travel videos. They run on subscription model and you will get access to all its vast library of stock footage with a variety of packages that fit any preferences. If you are looking for that missing footage to complete your travel videos, Shutterstock is the way to go.

Plan Your Videos In Advance

Lets imagine you travel to Milan for a weekend, to film a city break-style video. How do you want your video to be? Are you going to be speaking? Will you feature snippets of different places, as if it were a listicle blog post, or will you opt for a dreamy, cinematic style?

Its good to answer these questions before travelling to your chosen destination. The #1 beginner mistake when making travel videos is not planning, just filming random stuff then wishing that inspiration will come to you when editing, and youll *magically* find a super cool way to put all that footage together.

Guess what most of the times, it wont. Youll find yourself screaming at your laptop, hoping to find a way out of that pile of footage. The solution? Try to plan your travel video beforehand, thinking about how to open it, how to close it, what kind of shots you need, and where and when youll need to be at sunrise, sunset and so on.

Keep Your Video Clips Short And Sweet

While it’s easy to stand and film a five-minute clip of someone peeling potatoes for dinner, the reality is that when you watch that back, you’ll realize it’s way too long to remain interesting. Instead, consider keeping each clip to around 15-20 seconds in length. You might be surprised at how long 15 seconds of video actually seems like when you watch it back, and having lots of shorter clips cut together will give the video a more engaging, more professional feel.

If you’re walking up through a beautiful mountain trail, consider shooting 20 seconds of footage at five or ten minute intervals — or only at particularly scenic viewpoints — rather than just filming the whole way up. But make sure you’re ready to capture interesting or funny moments as they happen as it’s these personal moments that you’ll enjoy looking back on down the line.

Don’t overshoot — I only needed about five seconds of this overhead shot in the finished video, so shooting a minute or more of footage would have been pointless and time-consuming.

Which Program Do I Use To Edit

I started out using iMovie with my first few videos since it was really easy to use and already available on my Macbook. If you are just starting out, a simple program like iMovie is the way to go as it lets you learn the ropes a little easier than starting directly with advanced tools.

I have since moved to Adobe Premiere Pro though and have been working with it, together with Adobe After Effects for more than 3 years now and have not looked back since. You can also use Final Cut Pro if you are on a Mac.

The benefit for using Final Cut Pro is that since it was built to run on OSX, it is more optimized and render faster than Adobe Premiere Pro on OSX. Try it out by signing up for a trial run and see which one you want to invest in.

How Much Does Gear Matter

3 Tips to Make Your Vacation and Travel Videos Awesome!!

Dont let gear get in the way of what really matters: the journey itself. Most cameras with video capability can film exceptionally high-quality footage, even an iPhone. The difference is in the story you tell and how you choose to tell it. Your audience isnt going to be dialed in to pixel differences, but they will care about craftsmanship and how well the story captures their attention.

Preparing Your Images In Paintshop Pro

Start off with the map or title image you want to add a line to. If you dont have a map image, you can use the sample image provided in the tutorial download file above. You are going to need two copies of this image the original, plus a second version with the travel line drawn on it.

For this first step you will need to use photo editing software like PaintShop Pro. If you dont have image editing software, you can . You can also use Paint or another image editor of your choice.

  • Open PaintShop Pro
  • Click Open and locate your original image saved on your computer.
  • Activate the Paint Brush tool on the left toolbar.
  • Under the Tool Options, adjust the size of your paint brush.
  • Select the color you want for your travel line from the Palette on the right.
  • Draw the line across the map from destination to destination.
  • Once finished, click on File and make sure to click Save As to save as a new image since youll still need your original image file to create the animation.

Find The Focus Of Your Film

From the moment you start planning to the final edit you make, the most important thing to do is keep the big picture in mind let it drive all your decisions as a filmmaker.

Another way to think about this is to ask yourself what your goal is, what the purpose of your video is. Are you making a travel guide for the Amalfi coast, a documentary of your road trip through Scotland, or a sponsored travel adventure through the Amazon rainforest? Or do you simply want to make an epic travel video as a keepsake of your trip?

Once you have your overarching purpose figured out, the rest of the planning, filming, and editing process will fall into place much more easily. Whether youre a vlogger who wants to show their subscribers a day in Bali or a blogger who wants to add a video component to your post about the best way to see the Grand Canyon, theres no limit to what you can do with the video format and a desire to explore.

Some trips I totally fly by the seat of my pants. And thats okay sometimes you can schedule time to not know what the next thing is, says Waite. But its always a good idea to have that larger vision in the back of your mind, so you know what youre trying to accomplish.
