Oh the things that I saw! And mmm the things that I ate! Touring Spain and Portugal with Insight Vacations is truly the way to experience the best a destination has to offer.

Our tour director Bradley Dick had his finger on the pulse of each magnificent city and he made sure no detail went unnoticed. Thanks to his careful planning, the entire journey was hassle-free and effortless.

Madrid for me will always be remembered for our tapas style Welcome Dinner at Zahara where I had my first taste of delicious Salmorejo, and for the breathtaking art and stories of the Prado museum.

In Toledo I fell in love with watching the locals hand-craft damascene jewelry. I could have watched the master crafters lay the gold and silver wires for hours. The cobblestoned streets, flowered balconies, and engaging storytelling from our local expert made exploring Old Toledo an adventure. Our thoughtful tour director, Brad, continued to surprise us with local delicacies around every corner. The Piononos quickly skyrocketed to the top of my favorite pastry list!

In Seville we explored the Cathedral de Seville with yet another knowledgeable local expert. That night I experienced my first genuine flamenco show. The passion and intensity of the dance left us all with awe and admiration for the dancers.

Europe is our favorite continent for experiencing an immensely diversified super-serving of culture within a geographic area that allows for easy travel connections. At every turn history sparks our curiosity, while food from each region delights our tastebuds. Wine, beer and liquors have their own uniqueness rooted in the different regions which requires diligent sampling. And people-watching expands our horizons giving us a glimpse into what makes each town, city and country special. So when WAVEJourney was invited to join the 16-night Insight Vacations Treasures of Spain, Portugal & Morocco motorcoach tour at the end of April we readily agreed to climb aboard.

Whenever we take trips like this and plan on reporting about the experience, we tend to prefer to travel to places with which we are familiar , but we also like to be surprised by brand-new-to-us locations. While we had previously travelled to a fair number of the Spanish and Portuguese itinerary destinations this tour offered, the Gibraltar and Morocco legs would be a first for both of us, therefore a good mix of both familiar and new experiences.

My wife and I completed our first Insight Tour as stated above. It was sold to us on the basis that it was The Best of Spain and Portugal it fell well short of that claim.

I should also state there were 40 people on the coach, many had done Insight Tours in the past, but I would estimate at least half expressed being disillusioned and made similar comments to the ones made in this report.

As far as the quality of the coach, the hotels and the food in general was concerned, no complaints other than the food offered to us on the first night in Madrid at a restaurant to meet the other people on the tour. It was described to us as a light meal by the tour director I dont know why they bothered with the food, it was so pathetic it was embarrassing a light snack would be closer to the mark! So, first impressions not great!

The real concern was the itinerary, and what we were going to see and do. I should add that we had already done an extensive tour 3 years ago of Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Segovia and Avila so were aware of what was there to seen.

1. Engage good local guides wherever possible as opposed to the tour director.

Hi, yes we went in July for our honeymoon. Our guide was good. Some of the city guides are excellant. Depending on which city you stay in the accomodations vary. Some hotels are higher end and some are basic. The coach we took was comfortable and spacious. This was our first trip to Europe and our first escorted tour. We especially enjoyed Barcelona and wished we spent more time there. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Travel companion and I have just completed 15 days of a fantastico tour with Insight. The Best of Spain and Portugal. Tour leader was the highly skilled , energetic and entertaining Enzo Buonomo. For company, we had 36 Australians, Malaysians, Singaporeans, New Zealanders, Indians, Americans, South African ……. I’ve always hoped for such a united nations tour. Tour members blended so well, were caring, funny, interesting, entertaining, happy, and engaged. So many belly laughs during the tour. Yes , there was one exception, but majority rules !!We feel we have made new and genuine friends. Perfecto !Always organising us to the last moment, Enzo issued instructions for early morning airport transfers after our farewell dinner ” All right ! 7 am ! Wakey ! Wakey ! Hands off snakey ! “
