Part of the Expedia Group, Hotwire is a great fit for adventurous travelers who dont mind booking blind if it means receiving amazing discounts on last-minute deals. Heres how it works: hotels make their unsold rooms available to Hotwire for rock-bottom prices, allowing you to buy them at a fraction of the normal price. The catch? You wont know the name of the property until after youve booked. Essential information including the star rating, guest rating and general location is revealed in advance, however, and some listings give you a list of three possible hotels of which yours will be one.
Hotwire does offer conventional listings with the hotel name included, but prices for these hotels typically cost at least a few dollars more than booking direct or with one of the bigger OTAs. You can also book car rentals and flights via a third-party comparison search that includes the companys Expedia Group siblings. Its casual. Shorts and tee shirts are often fine in the buffets. Khakis, golf shirts, deck shoes are acceptable for most sit down/premium restaurants, but at some high end all inclusive resorts some long sleeved shirts for dinner are more appropriate. Bathing suits alone are only acceptable at pool bars and poolside snack huts. You dont need much, but good sunscreen and hats are recommended. Consider the electricity if curling irons and hair straighteners. For computers, phones, CPAP machines, an adaptor is fine for 220V.

Each of these sites has similar layouts and filter options, too. Like Expedia, these three sites offer every possible vacation package combination involving a flight, hotel, and/or rental car.
It was rare for any of these sites to beat out Expedias prices in my tests in general, the rates were identical or a little bit higher. However, Orbitz and CheapTickets did offer slightly cheaper packages on one flight/car itinerary.
Because the pricing is so similar, its probably not worth searching all three of these sites in addition to Expedia unless a difference of a few dollars will make or break your travel budget.
Best Feature: Travelocity, Orbitz, and CheapTickets all offer a checkbox on their main booking page to specify direct flights onlya feature that isnt currently available on Expedia. This saves you a step when filtering your flight options on later screens.
Note: Expedia Group also owns Hotwire, which I didnt find quite as reliable as the other three in my tests. For one itinerary, a nonstop flight that the other sites offered was not available when booking a Hotwire package , and the pricing on some searches was a little higher than on the other sites.

Depending on the price and quality of the resort, the included drinks often have one regular and one light draft beer, basic red and white wine, standard spirits and standard mixed cocktails . Premium resorts will offer an international bar with name brands and perhaps a selection of bottled beer in addition to draft and perhaps a few choices of standard red and white wines. In most cases wine by the bottle is extra, and there may be a supplement for premium scotches, cognacs etc . Soft drinks will be fountain in most cases.

However, Expedia is a particularly good option for those wanting to book a package vacation, i.e. to select and pay for flights, accommodation, and car rental in one go. There are several ways to do this. Under the Hotels tab, you can choose to add a flight and/or car rental to your booking.
Alternatively, the Bundle and Save tab allows you to book two or more of the following options: flights, hotel, and car rental. Often, you can make significant savings by booking these services at the same time. Making changes to a package booking can be complicated, so make sure that youre happy with your plans before paying. If youre not sure yet where youd like to go, its well worth browsing the Deals tab, which groups discount hotels and hotel/flight packages under themes like Family-Friendly Hotels or Extraordinary Luxury Hotels.
