She Also Has A Podcast
Between her YouTube channel, film appearances, and new Netflix series, Megan Batoon has been incredibly busy over the last decade. As if that wasn’t enough, she also started a podcast, “Just a Tip with Megan Batoon,” where she meets up with other dancers and media personalities to talk about the industry and their tips for making it through this crazy ride called “life.” She releases new episodes bi-weekly, and some of the subjects you can expect to come up include finding romance, following your passion, and getting in touch with your spiritual side.
Batoon met up with the hosts of Windy City LIVE to talk about her latest endeavor. While it was one more pot to put on the stove, the content creator wouldn’t have had it any other way: “You get to just like talk to people, and that’s all we want. We want connection. We want to laugh. We want to be with each other.” She continues releasing new episodes, which you can find anywhere podcasts are available.
Designer Ranch House In East Hampton New York
When celebrity stylist Micaela Erlangers then-boyfriend wanted to impress her with a weekend in the Hamptons, he picked this four-bedroom, three-bath house: a cozy, clean, modern getaway right down the road from Sammys Beach. It was nice and private for city slickers like us, but not too remote, she recalls. It had little luxuries like a Sonos sound system, an amazing master bath, wood-burning fireplace, and a beautiful kitchen. Two years after that first getaway, he proposed to Erlanger here. Their wedding is scheduled for 2022 and the couple is already counting down the days before they can return to the ranch house.
Villa Laura In Cortona Italy
If you liked Under the Tuscan Sun, youll fall in love with Villa Laura: It played the role of Villa Bramasole in the 2003 movie. Liz Biden, the owner and designer of The Royal Portfolio, South Africa, spent her holiday in the standalone home outside the old stone walls of Cortona in Tuscany. This very special villa, which dates to the 17th century, has 10 bedrooms and a big swimming pool, making it ideal for a family vacation, she says. The property is divided into a main house, farmhouse, and conservatory and theres bocce, Ping Pong, pool, a media room, and a pizza oven to keep the whole brood busy. We also hired a local Italian chef, says Biden, and had the most delicious meals in the comfort of our villa.

Stylish Riverfront Cabin In Gold Bar Washington
Nisreene Atassi, global head of communications at Expedia and host of the Out Travel the System podcast, ventured out to this three-bedroom, two-bath cabin on the Skykomish River last May, joined by her fisherman husband, baby daughter, two friends, and their dogs. Though the property is located just off the highway, about an hour from Seattle, Atassi was amazed by how secluded it felt. The cabin had a fruit orchard onsite and views of snow-capped mountains, not to mention plenty of space for her daughter and the dogs to play. Swimming holes and hiking trails were abundant in the area, and the host does an amazing job of helping you find the right activity for your family, she says. While her party didnt catch any fish, she says it was still the perfect long weekend away to celebrate her husbands 40th birthday.
Sister Villas In Jan Thiel Curaao
Unbelievable value for the money, says Lola Akinmade Åkerström, a Stockholm-based travel writer and author of the upcoming novel In Every Mirror She’s Black, about this duo of villas in the upscale neighborhood of Jan Thiel. Along with family and friends, Åkerström rented the two five-bedroom units to celebrate her sisters 40th birthday. What I loved about these properties, beyond their proximity to pristine beaches and waterfront dining, was their minimalist décor and modern architecture. lots of open space for dining together, and their sparseness meant we could make both properties our own by adding temporary touches.

Mount Williamson Duplex In Zermatt Switzerland
My brother and I did a ski trip to Zermatt for his 40th birthday, and this condo was perfect for adult siblings who want to hang out together but also to have plenty of separate space, says Maggie Shipstead, author of Great Circle. The decor is chic and Scandi-minimalist while still feeling warm. The locationjust a minutes walk to Gornergrat stationis convenient, and there are two bedrooms and two balconies. All in all, it’s a great place to collapse after a day of skiing and a few aprés Aperol spritzes, she says, and a great place to rally from when it’s time to go out in search of fondue and maybe a couple more spritzes.
Zahir House In Shela Lamu Kenya
My family and I love the island of Lamu, off Kenyas northern coast, says Sara Banks, chief executive officer at SteamLine Luggage. We have stayed in a few different rental homes with our four young sons, but this one is particularly beautifulspanning five floors with a rooftop lookout of the Indian Ocean and a small pool on the ground floor. Banks also likes the warm and welcoming house staff, including a chef who uses local ingredients for the meals. And with five en-suite bedrooms, no one has to fight over the bathroom.

The Alpaca Treehouse In Atlanta
One of my personal favorites, this tree house in an alpaca retreat in the middle of Atlanta where youd be sharing the backyard with 4 alpacas and 5 llamas is definitely one of the most unique rentals featured on the show.
The tree house is tucked away in an 80-year-old bamboo forest, in a magical setting. The 240-square-foot, two-story treehouse has two beds, 1.5 bathrooms, sleeps up to 4 guests, and goes for $380/night. It is 100% made out of restored materials, has a wraparound terrace, and a hanging Bali bed underneath it.
Inside, youll find warm, inviting interiors surrounded by glass and warm wood and lofted bedrooms suspended at the top of the tree house. And, to make your stay here truly unforgettable, you can opt for some unique activities like llama yoga.
Kahieluana Estate In Puako Hawaii
Photographer Gray Malin calls this lavish pick on the west side of Hawaiis Big Island a dream vacation rental. Located on a sheltered beach close to Hpuna Beach State Recreation Area, the five-bedroom mansion also comes with its own swimming pool, tennis and volleyball courts, and a bounty of water toys including stand-up paddleboards and kayaks. Finding a home of this nature right on the ocean is unique, says Malin. The kitchen and 12-person dining room are remarkable, as is each bedroom. And I love the living garden wall.

Netflix Makes Vacation Rentals Cool
I have loved staying in vacation rentals for years before they were cool even. Im a big fan of the sharing economy when it comes to travel , and I have appreciated the Netflix shows like Stay Here and Instant Hotel have introduced people to the idea that Airbnb does not necessarily mean sleeping on someones couch for $10 because one cant afford a hotel or hostel. But it can, if thats the experience a traveler is seeking!
The love and detail that goes into good vacation rentals surpass many hotels, and is usually more unique and memorable. Vacation rentals are always my first choice for unique lodging, and my hope is that the more shows like World Most Amazing Vacation Rentals there are, the more people become rabid fans of this form of lodging, and in turn, the more people that will open up their incredibly unique properties to travelers.
Im not going to review the show because many people already have far more eloquently than I could. Like this review. Or this one. But, I know what you really want. You want that obsessive travel friend who actually took the time to Google-stalk all the places Jo, Megan, and Luis got to stay. You want to visit the websites. Check the prices. Add them to your Airbnb wishlists or travel bucket lists. Dont worry I got you.

Victorian Townhouse In Edinburgh Scotland
This four-bedroom townhouse was where Sara Clemence first fell in love with Edinburgh. The co-founder of family travel site The Expedition and author of Away & Aware: A Field Guide to Mindful Travel stayed in the updated Victorian for several weeks with her husband, two kids , and her mother. We spent most of our time in the kitchen, which is country-ish without being cloying, and has these great navy blue cabinets, says Clemence. I also liked curling up on the pale-blue loveseat in the library, reading in front of the fire after the kids went to bed. And though the house was huge, it was very close to the city center. Says Clemence, I did a lot of walking up and down Inverleith Row, poking into spirits shops and bakeries and restaurants.
El Carligto In Andalusia Spain
While must-visits like Málaga and Córdoba are easily accessible from the cortijo, one feels as though one has the world entirely to oneself in this tucked-away property, says writer and creative consultant Natasha Nyanin. Staying in a traditional alabaster villa with my friend was a reverie complete with watercolor-esque sunsets and sunrises. They especially enjoyed their meals, catered by a chef on the verandah overlooking the undulating hills. The owners gave us plenty of space to immerse ourselves into the landscape without interruption, and yet were always on hand if we needed them, says Nyanin. Luxury, quietude, and warmth are the words Id use to describe this jewel in the Spanish crown that is Andalusia.

Lesson : Preserve And Celebrate History
Vacation rentals have a long history, and using vacation rentals to preserve history creates win-win-wins all around. Take Sausalitos The Yellow Ferry in Boats n Floats episode 3. The ferry was the oldest living one on the West Coast, built in 1888, and sitting on a shoreline deteriorating after WWII. The owner bought it for $1,700 and restored it to its former glory, now living in half and renting the other. During his preservation, he intentionally celebrated its history by exposing the ferry wheel and restoring other relics.
The Sitka Lighthouse not only preserved the lighthouse itself but repurposed stairs from a 1930s cargo ship and turned a ship wheel into a table.
The Playhouse vacation rental in The Berkshires, Massachusetts Courtesy Netflix
The Playhouse in the Berkshires in Gourmet Stays episode 6 perhaps does this best of all.
The Playhouse was built by electrical pioneer George Westinghouse as a playhouse for his children and the first home in the world with AC electricity.
The Berkshires in Massachusetts was once a haven for the wealthy during the Gilded Age. In recent years, many of the eras once-grand estates were collecting dust and falling into disrepair. Luckily, among the areas new generation of intrepid entrepreneurs is Daniel Dus of Shared Estates, a company that purchases historic estates and renovates them to todays environmental sustainability standards using crowdfunded capital, then rents them for high-end short-term rental stays.
Outlier Inn Geodome In Woodridge New York
For her birthday, Cherae Robinson, founder and CEO of Tastemakers Africa, gathered her friends for a weekend glamping retreat in upstate New York. Waking up in a geodome facing the sunrise is one of the most incredible things I can imagine, she says of this yurt set on a 12-acre farm in the southern Catskills, 90 miles from New York City. The dome sleeps up to 16 guests and shares its land with sheep, goats, alpacas, and chickens. There is an outdoor shower, sink, and clawfoot bathtub, plus a full outdoor kitchen, grill, and fire pit. Got a special request? Superhost Joshua is incredibly helpful, says Robinson, arranging everything from private chefs to sound baths.

The Diy Designer Is Showing The Budget
The three hosts of the Netflix series understand how overwhelming it will be for prospective travelers to get back into the swing of planning a destination trip.
That’s why, Megan said, they did all the legwork.
Megan, Jo, and Luis recognize that people will likely gravitate more toward rental properties rather than busy hotels. They’ve come up with options that people can actually immediately rent after watching the show.
“Whether you’re looking for a vacation that is in the trees, that is super secluded, or that’s within the same city or state as you, we’ve figured out three different ways of seeing whatever vacation you want,” Megan explained. “We’re the guides who have done the pre-work for you to sit back and just pick which vacation you want to have … All of these places are rentable.”
For the content creator, it was a natural fit for her to focus on the least expensive options which will include a treehouse and a communal space in Bali that is $24 a night per bed .
“My entire background is in the DIY space. It made the most sense for me to handle all of the budget-friendly options because I basically show people how they can have whatever vacation they want without breaking the bank,” she said. “You can still get luxury-type experiences without paying a luxury price tag.”
According to Megan, spending less doesn’t have to mean sacrificing on quality.
