How To Buy Disney Vacation Club Points

What Types Of Rooms Are Available For Dvc Members

How Many Disney Vacation Club Points Should I Buy? | Buying DVC

Disney has a few different types of rooms that are standard at their DVC resorts . The first is a deluxe studio. These rooms are the most similar to a standard hotel room and typically sleep four guests.

Deluxe studios almost always contain a queen size bed and full-size sleeper sofa. These rooms have kitchenettes with a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and other essentials. They have a balcony , beautiful bathrooms, and cable television.

As you are moving up in size, the next option is a 1-bedroom villa, which sleeps up to five people. These rooms have a separate master bedroom with a king-size bed, a full sleeper sofa, and a twin sleeper chair in the main living room. The living room, kitchen, and dining areas are open, facilitating family togetherness.

These rooms come with fully-equipped kitchens, including a full-size refrigerator and freezer, stove and cooktop, and cooking utensils. The bathroom connects to the master directly and to the main living area as well. Many of them have walk-in showers and separate soaking tubs.

All Disney Vacation Club properties also have 2-bedrooms villas. These sleep up to nine guests. The master bedroom with a private en-suite bathroom has a king bed, the second bedroom has two queen beds, and there is a sleeper sofa and sometimes a sleeper chair in the living room. They have double bathrooms as well.

Who Is Dvc Right For

If youre still unsure whether membership in the Disney Vacation Club is suitable for you, thats okay. As we have said a couple of times, it is a significant commitment. Well finish up with a handy list of questions to ask yourself to help evaluate whether you should look into it further.

  • Do you like Disney? Lets face it the DVC wouldnt be as successful as it is if it wasnt a fantastic option for Disney-goers. While you can use your membership outside of Disney, if you dont regularly plan to visit Disneys properties, it probably wont end up being your best option. Either way, just make sure to compare it to some other options.

In addition, you want to feel good about the companies with whom you do business. Find a company thats compatible with your lifestyle all the way around.

  • Can you afford it? The bottom line is, its expensive. Its also a pretty big financial commitment after all, youll be a member for 50 years. Even if your membership is paid in full, you will still owe annual dues that rise every year. As we stated above, nothing can drain the joy out of your vacation, quite like knowing you cant afford it. Whats more, if your membership goes into foreclosure, it will drastically damage your credit score.

How Does The Sales Process Work

Dont be misled by the claims that investing in a DVC resale deprives one of many great benefits. By purchasing a Disney Vacation Club Membership through resale, you will have the opportunity to enjoy all 14 DVC properties. Like all members, you will have the benefits of Home Resort Priority, youll have access to Member Services and can book your family vacation by phone or online. The biggest benefit of purchasing a DVC resale rather than buying directly from Disney is the priceyou will save 20%-50% off retail pricing! Members can also enjoy the thousands of resort options around the world through Resort Condominiums International .

Once you find the contract that best suits your family, simply create an account. When logged in, youll head over to the Listings page and press the plus sign to start the offer process. After youve submitted your offer, the seller will receive an automated email. Once you reach an agreement, youll sign the sales agreement electronically and we will forward the contract to Disney for ROFR. When we receive a response from Disney on the right of first refusal, you will be notified and our title company will begin generating your closing documents. From start to finish, the closing process takes about 45 days. At the end, you will be a proud member of Disney Vacation Club and that too by choosing from the DVC resales available at comparatively lower prices.

Will I Get Discount Disney Tickets

Not as a result of reserving to the say on-site at a Disney Resort. Discounts are exclusive to Disney Vacation Owners, and its usually for annual passes. If you are going to stay at a Disney World Resort, you will have to buy tickets or annual passes. There are some discounts like AAA and the Military. The discount we used typically comes out in January. In 2017, this is what we paid:

Disney Tickets Florida Residents: 3-Day Ticket:

  • $189.00 plus tax = $63 per day
  • $176.00 plus tax = $58.66 per day

Above all, the best thing to do for tickets is to check the specials on Disneys website.

The Standard Dvc Rooms Are Smaller

How To Rent DVC Points With a Broker & Save Thousands on ...

While there are a few different room sizes to choose from, we are comparing the standard rooms in this example. Standard rooms in the hotel resorts include two beds and often include a day bed, comfortably fitting 5 people. The studio DVC rooms include a bed and a pull-out couch making it more difficult to fit more than 4 comfortably.

Using our example, the studio rooms at Bay Lake Tower are about 300 square feet. A standard room at The Contemporary is 422 square feet.

The DVC rooms do have a kitchenette, which is something the Deluxe Resort rooms dont include.

One major exception to this is the Polynesian Villas Studios, which are actually bigger than the Standard Polynesian rooms. It almost always makes more sense to book a Villas Studio than a Standard room. See the graphic below for a comparison.

How To Decide If Disney Vacation Club Is Worth It To Join

First and foremost, the biggest factor when it comes to deciding is Disney Vacation Club worth it for your family is the cost. DVC is quite expensive, and requires a lot of money upfront. It is a timeshare after all, and you own a piece of property. This requires a down payment, potential monthly payments, annual maintenance fees, and the overall price is similar to the cost of a new car.

You also have to think about how often your family likes to go to Disney World or would be willing to go to other locations owned by Disney. Your membership guarantees you a trip every year, or you have the ability to bank your points for a bigger trip down the road, or even borrow from the next year for a big trip this year.

If you do decide to go every year, you have to think about whether that is cost effective or not. Travel, tickets to get into the park, and food/merchandise costs still need to be considered.

Also, your points expire after 50 years. You have to make sure you get enough trips in to break even, go at least once a year every year for 50 years, and, if going for 50 years isnt going to be possible, you can leave your Disney Vacation Club to someone else.

Will I Get The Same Disney Perks When Renting Dvc Rooms

Yes!

You are just another resort guest when you rent DVC points. Staying on property for your Disney trip entitles you to all of the resort-guest-only amenities. TravelingMom Tip: One GIANT perk of the room types offered through DVC point rental is that they all come with a kitchenette or full kitchen. You can even have groceries and snacks delivered before you arrive for your Disney vacation!

You Can Save Thousands Of Dollars On Your Disney Vacation Using Dvc Rentals And No Membership Is Required

Guests pay only $19.00 per point for all stays within 7 months and reservations booked beyond 7 months are calculated at $19.00 or $20.00 per point based on the DVC resort.

We have, available to us, inventories of rooms located on Disney property at the Walt Disney World Resort Florida, Disneyland Resort California, Aulani Hawaii, South Carolina and the Florida Atlantic coast, for rent.

You can reserve one of these rooms directly through Disney Central Reservations, or you can experience DVC Rentals to book the very same room through members of the Disney Vacation Club, at prices that will leave you asking “HOW CAN THAT BE?”.

These rooms, classified by Disney as “Deluxe Disney Villas“, are all located within the Disney Vacation Club resorts. You DO NOT need to be a member of the Disney Vacation Club or David’s Vacation Club Rentals.

The reservation will be in your name and you will check in at the regular Disney Resort arrival desk.

Your room will be assigned to you by the Disney Resort Cast members on your arrival. You will be treated the same as every Disney Resort Guest and you will have access to all of the same amenities and perks afforded to each and every guest staying at a Disney Resort.

The biggest difference is: There will be no room bill to pay when you check out unless you charge purchases to your room using your Key to the World Card, Room Card or Magic Band .

Dues Increases Vs Resort Rate Increases

Polynesian Villas & Bungalows Review

The effect of annual dues increases on the total cost of DVC membership must be considered. One issue to keep in mind is that Disney can increase dues significantly from year to year, subject to a limit of 15% each year and a requirement to charge only for the actual operating expenses and reasonably expected necessary reserves.

A portion of your dues is allocated to a capital reserve fund for major refurbishments. Adjustments are always possible if the projected reserve needs vary from actual experience, although Disney has been in lodging business for many decades and has considerable experience in what long-term costs to expect. Special assessments are possible if something unforeseen occurs .

Here are some examples of historical increases:

  • Old Key West Resort, the oldest of the DVC resorts had dues of $2.51 in 1991 and had dues of $7.84 in 2020. That means it has averaged a 3.87% increase, compounded annually.
  • BoardWalk Villas went from $3.70 in 1996 to $7.37 in 2020, an average annual compounded increase of 2.79%.
  • Boulder Ridge Villas at Wilderness Lodge went from $3.62 in 2000 to $7.78 in 2020, an average annual compounded increase of 3.71%.

Keep in mind, though, the cash cost of staying in one of Disneys resort rooms has also gone up significantly over time, and the cash cost of a resort room starts out much higher than the dues for an equivalent stay. Like the DVC resort dues increases, the rate increases at the Disney resort hotels are not consistent. For example:

Use Your Disney Vacation Club Points And Hop To Your Favorite Pool

Pool hopping is one of the many special perks you enjoy when you own Disney Vacation Club points. Most of the on-property pools at the Walt Disney World DVC resorts are yours to enjoy, no matter which resort you are currently staying at or which resort you own as your home property. From spectacular kiddie pools to serene lagoon pools to pools that rival those found at most water parks, the on-property swimming pools at the Disney Vacation Club resorts make for incredible vacation fun and don’t add a penny to your vacation cost.

When you pool hop, always check for the current pool rules in effect on that date, but generally, here is what you should anticipate:

  • A few of the Disney pools are off limits,
  • There are also some blackout dates when you cannot pool hop, which are typically during the Christmas and Spring Break holidays.
  • For everyone’s safety, you will be asked for identification to be in the pool area, and pool capacity limits are observed.

What Are The Best Home Resort Options

When you decide to buy into the DVC membership program, you have to pick a home resort. This is the main resort your points belong to, and this really doesnt matter much for new purchases, but it does matter when it comes to resale whether buying or selling.

Your home resort is also important when it comes to booking your vacations. You are able to book at your home resort up to 11 months in advance, but youre only able to book other DVC resorts 7 months in advance.

You can pick any of the home resorts they are offering to be your home resort when you purchase, but you may get the best deals on the newest or newly renovated resorts. Currently, Disney is offering huge discounts on Disneys Riviera Resort, Aulani in Hawaii, and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disneys Wilderness Lodge.

When it comes to deciding which are the best options for your home resort, consider the value and the space that you need. You are able to choose from Deluxe Studios, 1-Bedroom Villas, 2-Bedroom Villas, and some even have 3-Bedroom Villas. The bigger the family, the bigger the space you will need, but remember that the Deluxe Studios sleep 4/5, and the costs are much cheaper.

Disney Vacation Club A Primer

The Disney Vacation Club is a popular vacation ownership program. With 15 properties at which to use points for room rentals, DVC allows members to experience high-quality, welcoming vacations in several desirable locations.

What is the DVC?

The Disney Vacation Club is the Disney version of a vacation ownership program. It was created in 1991 by Disney Vacation Development, Inc., a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company. Unlike a traditional timeshare where owners buy a specific size unit in a set time of year, DVC works on a point system giving owners the flexibility to travel when they want, as often as they want, for however long they want, and in whatever size unit they choose.

Also, unlike traditional timeshares, your Disney Vacation Club membership, for most properties, ends on January 31, 2042. Membership at Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa will end on January 31, 2054, membership at the Animal Kingdom Villas will end on January 31, 2057, Bay Lake Tower ends in 2060, and Aulani, in Hawaii, ends . Although you are buying a real-estate interest and your purchase is actually deeded, your ownership ceases to exist after these dates.

How do the DVC points work?

When you buy into the Disney Vacation Club, you purchase a set number of vacation points. The minimum number of points that may be bought in your initial purchase, if buying through Disney directly, is currently 160 and the maximum is 2000.
