But there’s good news. Some lenders have more liberal definitions of what constitutes a second home. For example, one popular lender allows buyers to rent out their properties for as many as 180 days a year while still financing it as a second home.
One important piece of cautionary advice: Dont tell a lender what they want to hear and rent the property out later. Getting a mortgage under false pretenses is a form of mortgage fraud. Lenders dont check up on homebuyers often, but the penalties can be severe.
