Vancouver in British Columbia is a fun city all year round but especially at Christmas. The city puts on a variety of events including the Santa Claus Parade, the popular VanDusen Botanical Gardens Festival of Lights and a Christmas tree at Robson Square.
Like many cities, Vancouver has a Christmas market which is similar to those found in Europe. You can buy mulled wine and food from festive huts while local groups sing carols. As markets go, this one based at Canada Place is not busy in comparison to others Ive visited around the world.
Unlike many cities, Vancouvers winter sports opportunities run day and night. Snowshoeing, skiing and tubing can be enjoyed into the late hours at Grouse and Cypress Mountain. These are just a few things to do in Vancouver in winter. Since its Vancouver, we cant miss out the craft beer scene!
Most of the craft breweries create a winter batch which can be tasted on their premises or in many of the Vancouver bars. Popular brands include Parallel 49, Main Street Brewing Co and Powell Brewery. Some private and charitable companies create shopping opportunities. While spending the Christmas season at Disney World might seem odd to some, I think its the perfect place to get into the holiday spirit!
Although it can be busy at Christmas, the parks are perfectly decorated with large Christmas trees, themed decorations, special events and food.
We loved spending an evening at Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party, at Magic Kingdom. There is a special fireworks show, parade and free cookies and hot chocolate. Cinderella Castle is completely covered in lights, which adds to the magic! It is a separate ticket from the normal day time tickets, so usually there are less people and you can get on rides with a much shorter wait time.
Over at Epcot, you can experience the Festival Of The Holidays. There are food booths serving traditional foods from many different countries, and storytellers to share Holiday traditions from other cultures. Of course you can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus for the perfect family holiday photo!
All in all I would recommend Disney at Christmas to anyone. Its pretty special to watch it snow on Main Street, USA, when its usually above 80F!
