Heisler Park Laguna Beach
Admire the artwork, Catch stunning views, Enjoy the beach
Laguna Beach is a small town on the coast of Orange County that has a lot to offer. This hipsters paradise has an ongoing love affair with local art which is displayed in the many galleries along Pacific Coast Highway. Heisler Park is the best way to see Laguna Beach because of its stunning views of coves and beaches below. Take the winding stairs down to the tide pools or find a bench and absorb the beauty of the ocean before you. Parking can be difficult but will be well worth it. Spread out a blanket on the parks grass and enjoy the sights and sounds. Heisler Park is definitely one of the most Instagrammable spots in Orange County, if not the whole state of California!
Mostscenic restaurants to enjoy the view:Las Brisas, Cest La Vie, Driftwood Kitchen, the Deck on Laguna Beach, and Studio Restaurant.

Enchanting Escapades In Ojai / Caravan Outpost
Nestled in the hills above Ventura sits a gem of a small town, Ojai. The Village of Ojai contains an eclectic collection of specialty shops that feature everything from fine art to handcrafted jewelry. Outside of town, an active couple can find rock climbing, mountain biking, jeep tours, and more. Theres even the Ojai Valley Trail the runs 10-miles into Ventura if you want to combine your Ventura escape with the Ojai scene.
Ojai is renowned as a spiritual vortex and is one of Americas first New Age destinations. The village is home to numerous spiritual and mystical practitioners, often traced back to the 1920s Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti. Things are a little different up in Ojai, which is why our Concierge Choice property is Caravan Outpost. This property is a garden in the city where you stay in an Airstream trailer. Its the perfect home base to explore Ojai. Maybe try the Spa Ojais Kuyam treatment, which combines the therapeutic effects of self-applied desert clays with a traditional Chumash Indian narrative. At night, you return home to your Airstream and perhaps join a drum circle by the campfire. You never know what youll find in Ojai.
Temeculafor Local Wine Tasting
Why I love it: Its wine tasting close to home! If youre a wine lover and looking for romantic getaways near San Diego, go here. Temecula is under an hour from the airport!
Things to Do: There are more than 40 wineries here that range from destination wineries to family-run shops.
Temecula also has a great Saturday morning farmers market, the largest resort-casino on the west coast , and is home to the Temecula Valley Symphony.
Top Tip: If youre a serious hiker, try the Dripping Springs Trail. Be aware that your hike will take most of a full day though.
Where to stay: Youre here for wine tasting so why not stay at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa, a boutique resort and state-of-the-art winery? Check prices and availability here.
Or stay at The Cottage Haven, a sweet cottage recently featured on Tiny House Hunting on TV.

Central California National Parks
Yosemite National park is perhaps the best known. And no wonder. Majestic granite domes, numerous waterfalls, meadows and the Merced River attract families, hikers and rock climbers. One of my familys favorite hikes is Vernal Falls. And my son recently climbed Half Dome, a rock formation thats popular with experienced hikers. Visitors should know the importance of staying on trails. Accidents happen when hikers stray off trails to catch that perfect Instagram shot. This national treasure is less than 5 hours from Los Angeles by car.
TravelingMom Tip: Bass Lake is a gateway to Yosemite National Park. Situated in the Sierra National Forest, Bass Lake is about 14 miles from the parks south entrance. A destination in itself, Bass Lake has cabins and campgrounds for enjoying water activities.

Julianfor Mountain Town Pleasures
Why I love it: Julian is just a little over one a hour drive from downtown San Diego and even less from my home in North County. I visit every fall in apple-picking season! This is where to go for a San Diego mountain getaway.
Things to Do: If youre visiting in late September, go hear some bluegrass music at the Julian Music Festival. Or enjoy the special events of Apple Days in the fall.
Tour Julians past as a mining town or pan for gold at Eagle and Hike Peak Mine. Stop into the Julian Cider Mill for local jams, jellies, and other foodie souvenirs.
Top Tip: Order a piece of pie at the Julian Pie Company. These pies are legendary!
Where to stay: Stay in a romantic and authentic log cabin. It comes with an outdoor Caldera spa and a hot bubbling claw foot tub!

The Hilton family of resorts and hotels are famous for their hospitality and amenities, so you know that you can expect the best when you stay at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort. This resort is centrally located in Santa Barbara, close to East Beach and the Funk Zone district. Youll be within walking distance of plenty of wineries for wine tasting and art galleries.

Bay Area Wine Country
Napa Valley gets all the glory and it is wonderful but there are less pricey and equally tasty wineries in Sonoma County. One of my favorite towns is Healdsburg, a sustainable wine region with a rural lifestyle. The charming downtown has tasting rooms, mom-and-pop shops, restaurants, art galleries, and boutique hotels. If you visit, I recommend the elegant Jordan Vineyard & Winery, which produces one of the top Cabernet Sauvignon brands in California. Also worth a visit is nearby Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, a hidden forest with hiking trails.
The Resort At Pelican Hill Corona Del Mar
If youâre dreaming of a romantic getaway in Southern California that includes a rolling green landscape dotted with stunning Tuscan villas, delicious food and sunny, 75-degree weather, book a stay at The Resort at Pelican Hill. Step onto the 504-acre grounds and you might think youâve just landed in the Italian countryside, but with the added bonus of ocean views.
The Resort at Pelican Hill in Corona del Mar exudes an effortless sense of luxury and sophistication. Practically every room and villa have a fireplace, deep-soaking marble tub and a view of the Pacific. Youâd be remiss not to spend at least an afternoon at the iconic Coliseum pool, preferably at your own private cabana. This is the largest circular pool in the world, with a bottom that sparkles and glows bright blue from over one million glass mosaic tiles.
The Rotunda on the grounds of Pelican Hill easily wins my vote for the most romantic spot in Southern California. The dramatic soaring columns topped with a domed roof are reminiscent of a Roman temple, and the backdrop makes you feel like youâre among the clouds. If a walk down the aisle is in your near future, thereâs no better place to pop the question or say âI doâ than the Rotunda.

Catalina Islandfor Island Adventure
My first visit to Catalina Island was more than 30 years ago during a backpacking trip with a girlfriend from college.
We had so much fun camping. This is also a great couples destination for a romantic weekend or a short trip in California.
Why I love it: Thanks to the fast ferry, you can be enjoying an exotic island adventure in the Pacific in a little over an hour after you leave Long Beach .
If youre looking for easy overnight trips from San Diego, this one is perefect. And youll spy plenty of dolphins cavorting in the boats wake along the way.
Plus, its not every day that you see buffalo in the wildat least not in Southern California. The Catalina bison herd has been wandering here for almost 100 yearsever since a silent movie production imported them for a film.
Things to do in Catalina: Youll disembark the ferry in cute little Avalon, the only town on the island. The far side of the island is all beaches and camping.
Spend your days snorkeling, diving, exploring the beaches, and hiking the Trans-Catalina Trail or Garden to Sky Trail.
Or, head to Two Harbors for boating. You can find zip lining here, too. When the sun goes down, night owls can hit the casino while stargazers can take in the incredible night sky here.
Top tip: Skip the tour buses and rent a golf cart to explore instead! Its how the locals get around. You cant drive around the island as a guest so its that, a bicycle, or taxi.
