The Armed Forces Vacation Club offers DoD-affiliated personnel affordable condominium rentals at resorts around the world on a space available basis. The basic cost is $349 per unit per week. That averages to about $50 a day! Compared to regular prices of averaging $70+ a day, this is a real savings for military personnel.
These condominium units are usually only available off-season or on short-notice. They can be a real bargain if:
- you enjoy off-season activities in popular locations, or
- you can travel on 10 days notice or less
This program allows you to avoid the hassle of high-season prices, crowd, and lines for attractions. The AFVC website provides a search engine to search for available resorts within a specified date range. Recreational Lodging Vacation Rentals, located on Trumbo Point, provides the best quality and value in lodging for leisure travel to Key West. Vacation Rentals offers 3 bedroom/1.5 bathroom townhouses as well as 2 bedroom/1 bathroom cottages. Each unit is fully furnished and includes cable TV. Active Duty may make reservations up to 1 year in advance, retired military, eligible veterans, and DoD civilians may reserve up to 6 months in advance.

New Priceline And Defense Department Sponsored Site
Earlier this year, the Defense Department and Priceline partnered up to create American Forces Travel, a travel website designed specifically to help military families find discounts and savings. The site is not reserved exclusively for accommodations, however their aim is to also provide savings on car rentals, flights, and even cruises. When American Forces Travel first launched their business, they announced to expect to save military members an average of $240 per person per vacation.
Those savings sound ideal but it seems that these projections are not that straightforward. In an article written for military.com by Amy Bushatz, a military spouse, she researched a trip from her home in Anchorage, Alaska to San Francisco. She found that across the board , the Defense Departments new website did not provide any significant savings. In fact, in many instances, she found that other aggregator websites actually produced better prices for general citizens than American Forces Travel did for military families.
While the idea behind American Forces Travel is a good one, it may not be up to snuff yet. Representatives have ensured that as the site grows and matures, the discounts will continue to grow in quantity and quality.

Close To Parris Island
Cute home, 10 minutes from Parris Island and 5 min from food establishments. It has your basic needs. We didn’t use the kitchen area nor did laundry so I can’t comment on those. The shower has plenty of warm water. The only thing in the bathroom the barnyard style door kept opening up. This home does say pets welcome. If you are highly allergic to dust and pet hair either don’t book or take Benadryl. We had a miscommunication with Lana. We messaged each other a month prior if I wanted to stay an extra day because I wouldn’t know if I would be too tired on graduation day. She said don’t worry just let her know and put the money on the counter. Fast forward a month later, I message her the night before graduation and let her know we will go ahead and stay and leave the money on the counter. She replies that the place is booked and we have to leave by 11 AM. The graduation ends around that time. Anyways, called her and no apologies. As a homeowner that is renting, she could of gave me a courtesy call and a heads up hey, someone wants to book it, are you still interested staying that night?. Besides the miscommunication, dust, and pet hair the place is nice for a quick stay. It is conveniently close to practically anything you need.
