Expect Traffic On Powder Days

Because of its proximity to Salt Lake City , locals head for the mountains when the weather brings new snow. This can mean a lot of traffic to Park City on powder days, as we experienced on the last day of our trip. Once you exit I-80 at Kimball Junction, the road to Park City is only 2 lanes in either direction and can get very backed up. Plan accordingly if you are trying to get to ski school or a lesson on time .

Day : Take A Day Off The Slopes To Explore Park Citys Top Attractions

For your third day, take the day off to rest your legs and explore Park Citys many attractions and historic areas. Start your morning by taking the free bus system over to Main Street for breakfast or brunch. We suggest checking out The Eating Establishment, which serves up classic breakfast and comfort food at the right place.

Once youve finished with breakfast, take the morning to do any shopping along Main Street and the surrounding area that you may have missed on your first day before heading over to Utah Olympic Park. Built for the 2002 Olympics, the park features one of only four sliding tracks in North America, six Nordic ski jumps, a 2002 Olympic Games museum, and many other activities, including a zipline and ropes course. Thrill-seekers can even take a ride on the Comet bobsled!

After playing around the Olympic Park, take a shuttle or bus back into the Park City base area to try out the iconic mountain coaster. The elevated track winds you through more than a mile of loops and curves at speeds up to 30 mph, with the use of hand brakes.

Finish off the night with dinner at Wasatch Brew Pub, where the kiddos can pick their favorites off the kids menu, and you can sample some of Utahs best brews.

Day 5: Finish out your final ski day and soak it off in a mineral crater

As the largest ski resort in the U.S., its hard to ski everything in two days, so take your final day to enjoy the runs you may have missed, or even jump back on your favorites.

Be A Kid Again In A Massive Indoor Recreation Center

Photo: Woodward Park City/Facebook

About 10 minutes from downtown youll find a massive complex of black warehouses set against a series of soft slopes, where screaming families in tubes race down the mountain. Its Woodward Park City, a 60-acre adventure complex, where in addition to tubing it offers an indoor skate park, parkour courses, gymnastics facilities with spring floors, and a massive trampoline center. Theres even a digital media school where you can play with GoPros and drones to learn the tricks of capturing adventure sports.

You dont need to be a kid to use anything at Woodward, though the crowd definitely skews young. That said, its an excellent way to spend a family day off the slopes, and if you go during summer you can also explore the mountain biking trails and BMX courses.

Day : Ski From Canyons Village And Visit Gorgoza Tubing Park

Skier Dies After Hitting Pole On Utah Race Course

Start your first ski day with fresh coffee, tea, and assorted breakfast items at the First Tracks Café, located in the lobby of the Grand Summit. Afterward, pick up your rentals and lift tickets and check your kids into ski school. With world-class instructors, your kids will love ski school in Park City, which is divided up by age group. Serious skiers and riders aged seven to 14 can also enroll in the Ultimate 5 class, where they will cover the entire mountain in groups of five or fewer. Once your kids are taken care of, tackle your first day at Park City Mountain, which connects the old Canyons terrain to Park City via the eight-passenger Quicksilver Gondola, and consists of 7,300+ acres and 300+ ski runs.

Warm-up your ski legs up with a few green runs off the High Meadow Chair, which can be reached via the Red Pine Gondola, before transferring over to the Dreamscape and Tombstone Express lifts to meander around their blue runs. Cold days will call for the Orange Bubble Express, located right outside the Grand Summit, which was the countrys first heated, covered chair. More experienced skiers and riders will enjoy the intermediate runs off the Dreamcatcher lift and Red Pine Gondola. Access to black runs and the Red Pine Bowl can be found off Ninety-Nine Express, or alternatively, check out the Super Condor if moguls are more your speed.

Have A Lunch Strategy

Miners Camp lodge is located at the base of Claimjumper a long green run that is great for families.

One of the harder logistical parts of a ski day is getting lunch. There is always a major rush at all the on-mountain lodges around noon when there are long food lines and a seating crunch.

Park City is better than most because it is such a large resort with many on-mountain dining choices. We nevertheless saw things get pretty crowded. We opted to dine two days in a row at Miners Camp, a very large newer lodge that may look familiar to Tahoe skiers . It has the most indoor seating of the lodges we scoped out, and a good variety of food choices from pizza to burgers to hearty soups and stews.

We found it possible to find ample seating until about 11:30, so consider starting your ski day early and taking an early lunch. Since ski school started for my kids at 8:45 am every day, we had plenty of time to get in lots of skiing before this time.

Park City Utah Ski Resort Review!

The present-day Park City Mountain Resort has been developed from two separate ski areas with their own histories.

Park City Mountain was originally known as Treasure Mountain and opened back in 1963 by one of the former mining companies in Park City. It was rebranded to Park City Ski Area and finally as Park City Mountain Resort a few years before Park City hosted the Winter Olympic games in 2002 .

Canyons Resort was built in 1968 as Park City West and was then successively rebranded to ParkWest, Wolf Mountain and The Canyons before it was merged with Park City Mountain under Vail Resorts.

The massive ski area can now boast 330 different trails, mostly a mix of intermediate and advanced runs, and six terrain parks. Access to the ski slopes is via lifts from Park City itself, Park City Mountain Village and the Canyons Village.

Although the scope of the skiable terrain is massive, the ski area and the popular lifts can get crowded at busy periods because of the close proximity to Salt Lake City and the easy access from I-80.
